How To Guard Your Network From Trojan Attacks!

September 19th, 2009 → 7:23 pm @ Hosting Expert // No Comments

Think about this scenario: a computer hacker has discovered an accessible port on your desktop when you switched over from a dial-up Internet connection to an “always-on” high-speed connection.
The hacker uses a “robot”, a kind of “smart” program, that scans the Internet for available “ports”, or openings, in other people’s computers; in this case, YOUR computer! A Port allows information to pass back and forth from a network connection like the Internet to computers, and this is what this ‘bot looks for, like chinks in Armour.

Then your Internet service provider (ISP) contacts you, and they tell you they turned off your hosting due to “abuse.” This of course gets you very upset, and you try to sort it out with your ISP, and figure out just what the heck is going on!

Believe it on not, this sort of thing happens dozens, if not HUNDREDS, of times PER DAY!

Now, count me as the last person to sound paranoid, but, with an “always-on” connection, as DSL, cable, and T-1 line services proliferate, this story will repeat itself over and over again, until people learn to protect themselves. .Most people are utterly unaware about the information they send over the Internet when surfing websites and checking email. Even if you only use a simple dial-up account, you can unknowingly send an enormous amount of critical information!

I have a computer, which uses a wireless high speed network, and this is also vulnerable to Hackers. Anyone roaming around your neighborhood with the right gear, can “sniff out” your wireless network. If your network is “unsecured”, then he, or she, but usually he, someone young, can then “hijack” your signal, and use your account to surf and stuff. Even worse, if they are really good, they can hack into your bank details, and drain your accounts of funds. They do this by using software that is able to remotely track and log your “keystrokes”, which means usernames and passwords. BIG problem. So you must make sure that your Internet account is “secured”, so these criminals, and Internet Hacking is BIG business these days, can’t abuse your ISP connection, and wreak havoc with your accounts, both ISP AND Banking!

So, because I use my computer everyday, for some quite sensitive stuff such as online banking, as everyone does these days, I use an Anti-Virus software called Norton 360.

This continually scans all of my computer files, documents, email, browsing history, for any “attacks”, such as “Trojans”, and other viruses. Norton 360 also continually “tunes up” my computer, keeping it running at peak efficiency, as well as continually “backing up” software that I pre-select, to a secure on-line site. All of these steps insure that my time on the Internet is as safe and secure as I can make it. You just never know who is lurking out there in Cyberspace, waiting to take from you all that you have, and in some cases, all that you will be.

So, in summation, make sure that your “always on” account, whether it be fixed or wireless, is absolutely secure, best secured through and by your ISP, because their gear and know-how will be WAY better than yours; and use a very good Anti-Virus software, such as Norton 360, which not only intercepts attacks as they happen, via browser and email, but also keeps your computer “tuned up”, and will continually backs up your important files to a secure on-line storage.

Happy surfing! (Jaws theme) ;P
